Long-Duration Energy Storage

Long-duration energy storage (LDES) technologies, which can store energy from eight hours to days, weeks, months, or longer, allowing energy generated from zero-carbon sources like solar and wind to be stored across seasons. LDES is crucial for supporting the stability, reliability, and flexibility of the energy grid, especially as renewable energy sources like wind and solar power continue to grow in our energy systems. LDES also plays a vital role in balancing energy supply and demand, mitigating intermittent issues associated with renewable energy resources, and enhancing grid stability. Continued advancements in LDES technologies are key components of the path to a resilient clean energy future.
